Absolutely heavenly warm sesame balls in ginger soup - oh my god

This place was so worthwhile coming to. It is down small alleyway and is hole in the wall place but it was soooo good, the Tong Yuen. I have had this before numerous times but this was heavenly, the balls were so soft and warm and perfect with sesame oozing and not too sweet. This place only opens at 4pm until late at night so don’t go early, it takes them until about 4.30pm to be ready. It says they only make limited amount per day until they run out so I wouldn’t come too late. I will be coming back here on every visit to Hong Kong for sure, its one of my favourite deserts now. People come into the shop to buy the balls by the dozen to take home. It’s located just across the road from the Fortress Hill metro station. They don’t speak English but just google translate sesame balls and ginger.

Best tang Yuen ever!

Had black sesame paste with tang yuens filled with black sesame and peanuts! The balls were all so goooood, never loved eating chewy tang yuens but these were awesome!

Probably the best sweet black sesame rice-flour dumpling

Every time I came for sweet sesame rice-flour dumpling!???? It also came with ginger water. Super recommend this!!!

Nice black sesame filling ball

Small little and humble shop. Best in selling all type of traditional Cantonese sweet soup desserts. If you have sweet tooth, please visit and enjoy the authentic local taste sweet desserts.

Best in the World?

No doubt the best black sesame rice dumplings (zhi ma tang yuan) I have tasted so far. Good with both the traditional sweet ginger broth or black sesame soup (zhi ma hu). Thumbs up!!

Best Black Sesame Tong Yuen (Sweet Dumplings) Ever!

I love tong yuen (sweet rice dumplings) with black sesame filling and this place is truly the best there out there! You can tell that the filling (black sesame) is ground from whole sesames b/c it is slightly grainy and not as fine as the factory made frozen ones. The filling is also more rich than the frozen ones. The sweet ginger soup complements the sweet dumpling perfectly. This place is packed whenever I go. On eves of public holidays or weekends, there is a small line even at midnight. I frequently get take out since seating is quite limited. Check the opening times b/c they only open in the afternoon (until late). Quick walk from Fortress Hill MTR.

Traditional Chinese Sweet Soup

Normally we order takeaway as here's always FULL almost every night, and luckily we found there was a table available after dinner last night. We love the sesame dumpling so much, also sweetened almond cream...highly recommend.
